Children's Privacy

How this site handles information tied to a kid, and how it lines up with COPPA and similar rules.

Kids don't log in

Hope In Steps is for adults using it on behalf of a child. Parents, guardians, teachers, RBTs. Kids do not create accounts, do not sign in, do not type anything in themselves.

What the adult may put in about the kid

A nickname or initials. Rough age. Grade. How much support they usually get in school. Sometimes sex, when it changes what an example should look like. Assessment answers and practice progress get stored so we can build the next round.

What we do not ask for

Legal name. Home address. Phone. Exact date of birth. Photograph. SSN. School ID. None of it. If an adult types one in anyway, we have no field to store it in.

What we do with what we have

Make practice. Show the adult how the kid is doing. That is it. No advertising profiles. Not sold to anyone.

If we use AI or third parties

The things we don't collect are also the things we don't send out. When AI helps draft materials, kid-identifying detail is stripped first.

What parents and guardians can do

Ask to see the kid's profile. Ask to change it. Ask to delete it. Email [email protected]. We may check that you're the adult who manages that profile before we do anything with it.

COPPA

Because the site is used by adults on behalf of children, and because we minimize what we ask about a kid, we structure this around COPPA's requirements as they apply to how the site actually works. If you're a reviewer, an attorney, or a parent who wants specifics about a particular case, write to us.
